Knocked-Out Tooth

This is basically a medical emergency. In case it has occurred to an adult, try putting it back on the socket and rush to your dentist. In case you are unable to re-insert, put your teeth in a glass of milk and rush to a dental clinic. For babies, do not try to re-insert it.

Things to do

In case of a knocked-out tooth, you should first find the tooth, hold it by the crown and rinse it with water. Then you can try to put it back to the socket in case of adults and bite a handkerchief to hold the teeth in place. Then rush to your nearest dentist for help. The sooner you re-implant the teeth to the socket, higher is the chance that it would embed itself to the gum.

Treatment

Once you reach the dentist, they will check if you have put the teeth back into the socket properly. They might even take an X-ray to confirm the same. They would apply a technique called splinting which would attach the tooth to the roots temporarily. The process would be done for a period of two weeks. In case you are unable to find the knocked-out tooth, then the following treatment procedures would be applied:
  • Dentures- they are removable false teeth which looks like natural teeth
  • Bridge- here false teeth are glued on either side to natural teeth using a special type of cement
  • Implants- a titanium screw is placed on jawbone, and with the help of mold, customized false teeth are made
They would work as a substitute for your missing teeth and would improve your confidence by restoring your smile.
